This necklace measures 26 inches.  The swallow is a popular symbol in the seafaring crowd.  It is a symbol of good fortune and when sailors wore the tattoo it promised a safe passage home.  

 

The swallow is  hand cast in solid sterling from a 1920's bakelite charm and the necklace is made of vintage Padre Beads. These beads were traded in Africa between the 1650's and 1920's.

 

This chunky necklace also carries 4 vintage charms in silver from India.  The charms are stamped with Hanuman, The Monkey God, known for his perseverance, strength and devotion,  as well as Durga riding a Tiger which symbolizes strong female energy and good over evil.
