This insignia used by the U.S. Army during WW2 represents the constellation (Ursa Major) The Great Bear, who is the guardian of the North Star. I was reminded of this imagery on a visit with family looking through old photos. I found a few pics of my Grandfather who served in the Aleutian Islands in 1942. I also thought about the Aleut people who's life and art have always been an inspiration. Vintage Army shirt from the 1960's and all embroidery is done with indigo hand dyed linen threads from France.
